When it comes to layout you often think of the margin, padding and border.

They assist in properly laying out a design as it may have been planned. We will discuss each, but before this is done it is important that you become familiar with the box model.

The box model can be seen as a series of boxes which each represent something else. Firstly of course you have your content. Surrounding the content you have the padding, surrounding the padding is the border and surrounding the border is the margin.

With the box model you have control over alot of things. By understanding it you will be better equipped to control your layout. In the lessons following this you will learn moore about the padding, margin and border.
